Business strategy beyond the spreadsheet

A good accountant is great at numbers but is also a skilled communicator.

I’m proud to say that one of my clients has described me as ‘an accountant with people skills’.

That’s because I always aim to learn everything about a business, and not just the numbers on the spreadsheet. I want everyone working with me to really understand what I can do for them.

When your accountant talks to you, you shouldn’t feel as if you need a translator. So if I can communicate to my clients in simple terms, with concepts they can easily grasp, then I know we’re on the same page and I’m doing a good job.

Stakeholders

Getting to know the key stakeholders and seeing the organisation from their perspective, as well as my own, is crucial.

This means rolling up my sleeves, stepping away from the desk and finding out just what’s happening on the ground.

I find that insight like this allows me to offer detailed financial, HR, strategic and corporate governance support to a wide range of clients. I currently look after small businesses, larger corporations and a variety of arts organisations.
