The Finance Director looks after a company’s financial health and wellbeing.

But beyond that, the Finance Director should also take a lead in business planning, company strategy and good governance.

Everything a company can or can’t do depends on cash reserves or cash flow. Can more staff be hired? Can a new product be developed? The Finance Director is key in managing these decisions.

But not every business needs, or can afford, a full-time Finance Director. So, in recent years, we’ve seen the rise of the ‘virtual Finance Director’.

• Supports the senior executives

• Develops budget models, works with budget holders, agrees budgets, presents budgets
• Reviews and develops management information systems

• Makes efficiency gains from reviews of systems and working practices
